So I figured I owed you guys a little update. What started as one of those weeks where I was super busy and didn’t have time to do any posts has extended a little further than I’d hoped. As much as I’d like for everyone to believe I live in a magical world where every day has 72 hours and they’re all spent playing video games, eating mini pizzas and posing for semi-provocative photo shoots, I’m part of the same world you are, and my day job – which is sometimes also a night job and a wee morning hours job – has been taking up the hours I used to be able to use to post on my blog and do the podcasts.

Until I can get some breathing room, posts are going to be few and far between. And while I have fought hard against Twitter-ers for awhile griping that it’s a lazy form of journalism that takes no thought, I have started a Twitter account and will try to post links to cool things I find that I don’t have time to write about. I shudder to think about this becoming my new MO. I’d rather shut things down altogether than replace actual writing with 140 character vomits. Alas, it’s the only thing I have time for right now, but I promise, I’ll be back in action as soon as possible.

Switching Hosting Accounts

Aight. I’m officially switching hosting accounts tonight. Hopefully, everything won’t fall apart. If my site is being weird, this is why. Wish me luck.

UPDATE (11:30 PM) – So … about that whole switching hosting accounts thing. Yeeeah. Not so much. I knew it was going to be a pain in the ass. I just wasn’t quite aware of HOW big a pain in the ass it was going to be. After about 3 hours of fucking around with it, I’ve decided to stick with my current plan and tough it out. At least until I’m less tired and cranky.

Domain Name Capture FTW!

So I’m pretty excited. Today marks a momentous occasion in which I finally – after about 5 years of trying – am the proud parent of the domain name: GameDame.com. WAHOOO! Now I’ve got TheGameDame.com AND GameDame.com. I feel like I should pass out celebratory cigars or something.

Anyone got a good resource that tells me how to do a mirror site? Right now, I just have GameDame.com forwarding to TheGameDame.com where everything lives, but it’d be nice if they mirrored each other.

What started out as a nice relaxing evening at home with my fat, snoring dog and a fresh watermelon quickly turned into a nightmare. I was surfing the internets, listening to the song in the intro movie for Fallout 3 that I have fallen completely in love with for some reason and decided I was going to post it on my site. But when I went to log in, I got a nasty message: “Error establishing database connection.”

I called GoDaddy to figure out WTF was going on. They told me there was nothing wrong on their end. That WordPress was calling a database and that database didn’t exist. Apparently, it got bored and decided to take off. I have no idea how that could’ve happened and neither did the guy I talked to.

I spent the next hour freaking the hell out that I’d lost every post on my site and would never be able to get things working again. I was trying to get help from the first tech support guy. He said that because I’d installed WordPress manually and not through them, he couldn’t help me. I was about to lose it. I asked the guy if he knew of any good resources online where I could figure out how to fix this mess. The dude actually said “Why don’t you try Google?” REALLY, ASSHOLE?!?! Thanks. I wouldn’t have thought of that. Fucking jerk.

I set up a new WordPress account through my GoDaddy hosting account with the help of another tech support dude named Chad who was NOT an asshole and prevented me from writing the totally nasty “I hate GoDaddy” rant I had totally intended on posting as soon as I got everything switched over to another company. So, thanks Chad. Way to represent your company. I don’t remember the other guy’s name, which is probably good for him, but whoever you were – you should take customer service lessons from Chad. When someone who has supported your company for about 10 years and has purchased around over 50 items from you has a crises, don’t be a jerk. There’s this thing called the internet, and we will tell EVERYONE about it.

Then I called my friend Mike. And through him coaching me on the phone, I was able to retrieve everything except the last two months of posts – which most of you know there weren’t a lot of. He was even helping me find the last two months of posts through cached Google pages, but I’m so worn out that I decided I’m good with losing those. Mike also designed my layout. Mike is a genius. And I love him. I owe you a solid, bro We need to plan our WTFBBQ soon.

SO – I’m back. I lost a few posts, but I regained my sanity, so I think that’s a fair trade.

Now that my heart rate has slowed, I will leave you with this (the song I originally wanted to post over 3 hours ago) and go back to enjoying my night:

Effing Gross Blog Comment Spam

Whenever I log in to check my Game Dame comments, I expect to see some spam that needs to be deleted. I always get the ones about buying cheap drugs and porn. Usually, the porn links make sense… “Eva Longoria topless!!!!” or whatever. But today two of the posts made me lose any desire to eat lunch. So naturally, I’m going to share them with you. I will not suffer through these mental images alone:

You feel a little sick now thinking about nekkid Frasier Krane and Doogie Howser, don’t you? Kind of like that feeling you got that one time when you were stumbling to the bathroom in the middle of the night and stepped in cat vomit. Squissssssh.
