If You Can Play Guitar Hero, You Can Play The Guitar

The folks at Rocumentary Entertainment just released Gamers to Players (G2P), an instructional DVD that shows you how to take what you’ve learned in Rock Band or Guitar Hero and translate that over to a real guitar.

Co-creator and G2P instructor Mark John Sternal said, “People of all ages love games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. These games have even inspired a number of people to take up a musical instrument as a hobby. The problem is, learning to play guitar after learning the games can be difficult. G2P gives a gamer an advantage over beginners when making the transition from the controller to a real guitar. Our unique system cuts out all of what gamers don’t want, and gives them all of what they need to start cranking out tunes right away! G2P speaks the language of gamers, and makes the transition from Easy to Expert fast and easy.”

Right now, the DVD is available in the U.S. and Canada at guitar stores including Guitar Center and Sam Ash and the creators are hoping to sell it in the same places video games are sold by November.

Jack Thompson Disbarred

A few months back, I decided I wasn’t going to do any more posts about Jack. It seemed that even when people were reporting negative news, he was still able to bask in the fact that people were saying his name. But today I’m giving in because in 29 days, Jack will no longer be licensed to practice law and cannot apply for reinstatement… EVA! There’s no need for me to re-report what Kotaku and GamePolitics have already reported so well, so check them out and breathe in a sigh of relief. Hopefully in 29 days, the reign of Jack will be over.

Happy Friday Video Party!

Episode 1 of what I hope will be a long series from YouTube user Brentalfloss – Video Game Movies that Missed the Point:

Parappa The Rapper takes it to the streets in the latest video from Mega64:

This is quite possibly the best short film I’ve seen based on classic video game characters, and that’s saying a lot considering the caliber of some of the ones out on the interwebs. Created by Zach Grafton (writer) and Matthew Mercer (director), There Will Be Brawl: Twilight Ruin is the first episode and their site – ThereWillBeBrawl.com says that episode 2 will be out in about a month. Truly brilliant stuff here. Make sure you check out their site for more clips:

Make Your Own Ninja!

Last month I posted what was probably the shortest and most mysterious press release for a game ever – and perhaps the most intriguing. Since then I’ve seen a slew of additional character descriptions along the same lines as the one I posted on Business Ninja and I finally found out more of the scoop. The game is called Ninjatown, it’s for the DS, comes to us from Southpeak Games and it’s due out in October. It has been nominated as the Best of E3 by both IGN and 1UP and looks like it’s going to be a blast.

Can’t wait? Need some ninja action now? Check out the “Wee Ninjatron” online avatar creator where you can create your very own customized ninja complete with a backstory to show off on social networking sites like Facebook, Myspace, and Bebo, as well as personal websites and blogs. You’ll get to choose different body styles, colors, moods, facial hair, clothing, accessories, and background, then enter in some words Mad Lib style to create your ninja’s very own bio. If you’re stuck creating a unique ninja-worthy name, check out the Ninja Name Creator on Quizopolis. I usually consider these character creator things pretty eye-roll worthy, but I was pretty excited about that one. Meet my ninja – The Heinikator:

Wario Land Shakes Up YouTube

warioland.jpg

It’s tough for agencies to come up with clever banner ads that won’t get ignored, but when they do… BAM! Check out the new campaign for Wario Land Shake It for the Wii. They’ve taken over a YouTube page and at first, it just looks like a nice experience video. But wait until the end to see what happens. Once it’s done playing, all of the page links still work and you can even throw the elements around the screen. Well done, Nintendo. That’s good stuff.

Pac Man Cheese

Ad produced by German Agency Cayenne

Check out this ad for what – as far as I can tell – is some kind of soft cheese with olives in it. At least I’m hoping that’s what it is because the translation of Rotk√§ppchen is little red riding hood and I’m hoping she’s not ground up in there. For more clever ads, check out BSPCN.

New MTV PSA Shows a New Way to Game

livevideogame.jpg

In an effort to get people to join the fight against global warming, MTV Networks has started the “MTV Switch” initiative. To spread the word, they released 5 short films and 5 PSAs last week – one of which shows a new way to game: via reenactment. Created by Selmore, the point of the Video Game PSA is to try and get people to trade out electronic entertainment for human interaction every now and again.

I tried to find the spot on YouTube so I could post it here, but it looks like it’s only available on the MTV International Press site so you’ll have to check it out there.

The spot directs viewers to the official MTV Switch site where they are encouraged to come up with ideas to switch the way they live in order to make a better impact on the environment. I love the spot, but I do wonder how much energy was used to cast, shoot, produce, host and promote it ;)
