I Shoulda Said…
In response to Kevin’s comment about Vivendi and whether they should care about game rankings or just sales… I said that Vivendi is clearly just focused on sales. But I also should have pointed out that in addition to sales stats, they really do need to be conscious of the way their games are being reviewed. You can’t always depend on driving sales with a title. If the gameplay sucks in Ghostbusters, then it’s no better than those awful games that are rushed through production to meet a movie launch date. Developers should focus not only on the “cool factor” of the games they produce, but also on whether or not that game is any fun to play.

I just saw the vid, Kate. You look great in video. As for the GhostBusters video game, It must have the original four from the movies just to get this thing off the ground.

Normally, I don’t think reviews have that big an effect on early game sales. Die-hard gamers don’t even read the reviews if they’ve already been turned off or on by the previews. Reviews are more powerful for occasional gamers.

But in the case of Ghostbusters, I think more people might wait for reviews just because movie-based games always suck. I’d be a lot more skeptical if Ramis and Akroyd weren’t working on the game.

Anyway, that’s pretty crazy, being invited on national TV to give your opinion. Gratz. You kept cool and gave good answers.
