Foo Fighters Rip Off Sesame Street

So on the way home from dinner tonight, I heard the new Foo Fighters song, The Pretender. But the chorus reminded me of something … something from my youth … It took me a few minutes to place it, and then I figured it out.

Listen to the chorus of this song (it starts when the counter gets down to 3:15):
[youtube DKhnmUdmz74]

Now listen to Cookie Monster’s song:
[youtube tZIvgQ9ik48]

NOTICE ANYTHING??!! Will Cookie Monster sue Dave Grohl for ripping off his tunes?

I can hear it now:

COOKIE MONSTER: You stole song!
DAVE: But I changed the words, man.
CM: Not enough. Me want money!
DAVE: Wanna smoke a bowl instead?
CM: Have cookies too?
DAVE: Always, dude. Always.
CM: OK. We good. No sue.
DAVE: You’re my boy, Blue.

Glad I’m not the only one who heard that. :)

OMG they do sound similar foo fighters stole a song lol

Yeah I heard that too… I thought it was intended.

You may also notice the chorus is much like that of “Unsociable” by early Mindless Self Indulgence.

1. dumb, just dumb
2. first time I heard the song, loved it, now I’m downloading the album from torrent… thanks!

jesus i heard this as well lol

i think all of u guys r dumb!thar song is awesome! i luv it!

haha
so?

So the rhythm of the two is similar… and? It’s not exactly the same. If they do sue they probably wouldn’t win, if they did then by that logic pretty much all songs are rip-offs of each other.

Like only the first 4 words are the same. Nothing after that is close. This is retarded. Both, that the cookie monster had that big of an impact on your life and you think they are the same.

Just kinda sounds like it. I sort of hear it, but if you listen closely theres no similarities at all.

fail.

not the song, i love it. getting the album.

omg shut up. one line in the foo fighters chorus (what if i said i’m not like the others) has a vague similarity to one of the lines in cookie monster’s whole song (one of these things is not like the other things). none of the other words/ideas are alike. get over it, and get over it hard.

As you can clearly hear foo fighters singer sings ” what if I say your not like the others, what if I say your not just another one…”
Cookie monsters sings “one of these is not like the other, one of these things just doesn’t belong…” CLEARLY they do not match, maybe you should listen more carefully! :D

you fag your all the biggest bunch of idiots i have ever seen

what the fu*k are you guys going on about????? the only lyrical similarity is “one of these thing are not like the other thing”. thats it! ya all are dumb!
the foo fighters is teh uber sh*t! so go eat your mom.

Yeah, I heard that too, however, I am pretty sure they meant to do that. It wasn’t on accident.

The fact that so many of you peeps really believe I think the Foo Fighters ripped off Sesame Street makes me laugh. The whole thing is a joke! Good lord.

Yes, folks, I am perfectly aware that FF and CM do not sing the same exact words or rhythms. Know why? Because I am not a fucking retard. Unclench your sphincters and learn to laugh. It makes life easier to live.

kill yourself.

NEVAR!!!!!!

how else shall we make our own diamonds?

SUE CM SUE!!!!!

Wow the people who commented on this page have an almost youtubesque ability to destroy my faith in humanity. Seriously, has the world ceased to be able to take a joke? I sometimes wonder how much of your humanity you have to strip away before you get the nerve to post bullshit like “the foo fighters is teh uber sh*t! so go eat your mom. (sic)” or “i think all of u guys r dumb!thar song is awesome! i luv it!(again, sic.)”. Is it lack of education, or simply a distinctive and overwhelming lack of intelligence.

As to the actual post i think its a fairly good one, considering the general (low) level of the internet nowadays.

Rather than broadcasting your clear lack of social skills to the world, you might want to do some research on the appropriate usage of the words “your” and “you’re.” Crack a book, dipshits. She meant it as a joke and it cracked me the fuck up.

The Incredible Razboz

Thank you.

Oh god, thank you. This is a good song. It is also similar to the cookie monster clip…which I must say, is also a good song. (Shut it, I rocked that song when I was 5)

Don’t be so serious people. This amused the hell out of me….maybe a duet is in order?

This whole page is a waste of valuable net space.

Mr. “notevencloseyo” – I pay good money for this space. So eff off. You got something more clever to talk about? Start your own blog.

Thanks to all of you guys and girls who have my back on this one.

That is all.

personally i dont see it but it wud be bloody funny if in an interview Dave Grohl sed that was wot inspired the song. gettin the new albumn, nice one

LOL – I heard the same similarities too – Thanks to Mr. Grohl to conjur up childhood memories and to the Game Dame to point it out and make some of us smile! Haha!

(oh, and all you videogame geeks need to read books and learn about the real world outside of poly-counts and leet lingo) (it might give you a sense of humor AND get you laid!)

Hhmmm, first time I heard that song, I thought that the FF WERE singing, “one of these things are not like the other.” I figured they just took the line. I’m sure if you dig deep, you can find better examples from SS that are even more similar.

wow…i think someone has too much time on their hands.

haha that’s exactly what I thought when I first heard this song, but I didn’t know what it was from. The first time I heard the song I thought they were saying “one of these things is not like the others” so I was kind of thinking wtf?

there are only so many chords, so many rhythms and so many different beats.. many rock songs use the same chords, so it could be said that many songs rip off zepplin or the beatles…. and it wasn’t really a rip off, just using a similar beat and chords etc. The music isnt similar at all, and cookie monster is hitting a few more notes than the monitone chorus from the foo fighters.

Dude, I think that’s what Grohl was getting at.

Dave Grohl is a master of music. And I think this just proves once and for all:

The Cookie Monster is a rock star. He plays guitar riffs when the days over, and he eats cookies while doing it. He has a band too, but Oscar the Grouch is the front man.

Dude, we aren’t saying that they are exactly the same things but if you listen the tune is the same. Different words or not the tune is the same and some words are similar. Both say “not like the others” we aren’t saying they are the same!
It would win in a court case because its copyright for using the same tune.

yea i thought the same thing first time i heard the song too, but i love it! lol!!

This is great =]
I think anyone on here posting hateful comments is really pathetic, calm down, yeah? It’s just a bit of fun (that happens to be true too) =P
Would be pretty funny if sesame street sued, nay, if the cookie monster himself sued ^.^

I just can’t believe some of you people. There are only a very small amount of similarities, if you can even call them that. I mean cmon, Vanilla Ice nearly ripped off Queen’s “Under Pressure” completely, and he got away with it.

Dear lord

LOLZ!

aha

(L)it
x

Gosh guysss
losen up a bit
its actually very funny

Gamedame….total genius! Made me laugh my head off…..now thinking of alternate band names….which sounds better??

‘Cookie Fighters’ or ‘Foo Monsters’??
