Sony Finds Out I Bought a PS3 – Slashes Price $100

It seems like every time I give in and say “Well, this is the best deal I’m gonna get.” and buy something… soon after the company will slash the price. Just like Sony has done with the PS3. To make up for their crappy sales (the Xbox 360 and Wii have far outnumbered sales over the PS3 since launch) they announced their plan to cut the price by $100 starting today. Sony is also introducing a new version of the PS3 featuring an 80-gigabyte hard drive and a copy of Motorstorm, one of two games I’ve heard good things about out for the PS3 right now. (The other one is Resistance: Fall of Man). This may help Sony play a little bit of catch up, but there are rumblings about an Xbox 360 price cut coming up, too. So we’ll just have to see what happens.

Microsoft Extends 360 Warranty

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that it will expand its global Xbox 360(TM) warranty coverage. Now, any Xbox 360 customer who sees those three red blinking lights of death (representing a general hardware failure) within three years of their original purchase date can relax. Microsoft has promised to make all console repairs free of charge, including shipping costs. Plus, anyone who previously paid for repair expenses related to the 3 evil lights will be retroactively reimbursed by Microsoft.

“The majority of Xbox 360 owners are having a great experience with their console and have from day one. But, this problem has caused frustration for some of our customers and for that, we sincerely apologize,” said Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft’s Entertainment & Devices Division. “We value our community tremendously and look at this as an investment in our customer base. We look forward to great things to come.”
