Chop chop.
I’ve seen a lot of video games in my lifetime, but this is the first one I’ve played based on chopping off cat nuts. Ideopia has launched CATSTRATION, a single-player, web-based game developed to educate pet owners about the crisis of animal overpopulation. As cats fly by, the player attempts to neuter them by tossing knives. For each cat neutered, the player saves the lives of seven additional animals. The cats fight back by dropping deadly hairballs. If the player fails, the screen rapidly becomes over populated with cats. You get 9 lives (insert smirk/groan here).
“Our game, Catstration, wasn’t designed for animal rights activists, animal lovers, or tree-hugging nut jobs like ourselves,” said Bill Abramovitz, CEO. “We’re trying to reach the people who own animals, and don’t understand the importance of spaying and neutering. A game was chosen for this project because of its potential to spread via the Internet and command the attention of a wide audience. Although the tone of both the game and website may appear flip, the point is delivered in plain language: the best solution we have to offer unwanted pets is euthanasia. This is simply unacceptable,” said Abramovitz.
